I calmly put the lid back on.
He stared at me in disbelief.
I explained that the meat,S. vegetables, spices, gas I had used to cook, and even the apartment we lived in had all been paid for with my money.
Numbers Don’t Lie
He crossed his arms and sarcastically asked whether I was now going to start counting every bite he ate.
“No,” I replied. “Just the expenses.”
I opened the folder and pulled out a sheet.
It contained a list of everything I had paid for during the previous two months:
Building maintenance
Electricity
Gas
Internet
Groceries
Cleaning supplies
Household expenses
In the column labeled “His Contribution,” there was one number:
0.
He pushed the paper aside and said it didn’t impress him.
I knew it wouldn’t.
That was why I pulled out another document: the deed to the apartment, which was solely in my name.
His legal address was registered elsewhere.
