When my husband said to my daughter, ‘You don’t even realise how beautiful your silhouette is’

I looked at the material again.

I immediately recognized the sledgehammer lace.

I put my hand to my mouth.

– Daniel was smiling.

“That’s why I said you’d cry.

And he was right.

I started to cry.

But after a few seconds, the emotion mixed with something else.

I looked at him.

And the comments about her body?

His smile was gone.

Emilia sighs.

This is my fault.

– What do you mean?

He sat next to me.

She told me that, after her engagement, she had started trying on wedding dresses and that her experience had made her extremely unreliable about her body. A workshop told her that certain models “were not for her silhouette.” Another person had made a comment about her hips.

Emilia had come home crying.simo

She hadn’t come to me because she knew that I had had years of problems with my own body image and she was afraid that she would make me feel guilty or that I would try to solve everything in her place.

Daniel was there.

“I told her there was nothing wrong with her body,” he said. But now I realize that I have formulated some things very poorly.

– Very stupid.

– Yes.

I didn’t laugh.

Because although the explanation completely changed what I had imagined, my discomfort had not been invented.

“Daniel, you’ve been her stepfather since she was nine. When you suddenly start talking about her silhouette and hips, without any context, it’s normal to raise questions for me.

Daniel nodded.

You are right.

Emilia intervened:

Mom, I told him it was okay. I knew exactly what he was referring to.

– I know. You are an adult and you can decide what bothers you and what doesn’t. But I didn’t know the context.
