Then he pointed it out.
“Get it.”
Lily looked at the cigarette.
Brenda smiled.
“You have heard me.”
More women started watching them.
“Get it and throw it away.”
Lily slowly looked up.
For the first time since he had arrived in prison, something changed in his expression.
Brenda noticed it, too.
His smile faded slightly.
Lily quietly leaned the broom against the wall.
Then he did something so unexpected that the laughter stopped almost instantly.
Women from all over the yard began to turn towards them.
Even the guards stood still.
And in a matter of seconds, the entire prison yard was completely silent.
It will continue in the first comment 👇👇
PART 2
Lily leaned the broom against the wall.
Very slowly.
Very quietly.
Brenda’s friends were the first to stop laughing.
Something had changed in Lily’s face.
I wasn’t angry.
I wasn’t scared.
It just seemed… fed up.
Brenda crossed her arms.

“What?” he said. “You suddenly don’t understand English anymore?”
Lily looked at the crushed cigarette against the cement.
Then he looked at Brenda.
“No,” he said quietly.
It was the first time most of the women in the yard had heard her talk.
Brenda smiled.
“Well, then pick it up.”
Lily didn’t move.
Brenda took a step closer.
“Do you think you’re too good to obey me?”
Lily denied with her head.
“No.”
“Then pick it up.”
Nothing.
The whole yard had been strangely silent.
Brenda’s smile disappeared.
He reached out and grabbed Lily by the shoulder.
That was his mistake.
Lily moved instantly.
Not wild.
Not with anger.ah nta zaml
Just fast.
It turned, freed from Brenda’s grip and redirected his forward momentum with a single controlled movement.
Brenda stumbled several steps before regaining her balance.
Exclamations were heard throughout the courtyard.
Brenda turned around.
His face was burning with shame.
“Little…”
He threw himself forward again.
This time Lily stepped away, held her wrist and stopped her without throwing a single blow.
Brenda stood still.
Lily held it that way for a second.
Then he let her go.
“I don’t want to fight you,” Lily said.
Brenda stared at her.
That just enraged her even more.
“Do you think you’re too hard?”
Lily’s expression remained calm.
“No.”
