Noah nodded, determined.
Then he turned to Daniel.
“Will you come to my next session?”
Daniel knelt beside him.
“I wouldn’t miss it.”
Noah grinned.
“Good. Because I want you to see me do it again.”
Emily watched them, and for the first time in years, her smile reached her eyes.
Daniel noticed.
He wanted to reach for her hand.
He wanted to tell her that he still loved her.
But he understood that the most important thing was not what he wanted.
It was whether she felt safe enough to believe that the man standing beside her had truly changed.
So he said nothing.
He simply stayed.
A year after receiving the mysterious letter, Daniel returned to the little wooden house in Kentucky.
It had been repaired, but he had insisted that Emily keep it.
