Richard nodded.
“He knew Emily was carrying your child. He knew where she was living. And he knew you hadn’t contacted her.”
“Why didn’t he tell me?”
Richard looked ashamed.
“Because he believed your marriage was weakening your control over the company. He wanted you focused on the business, and he thought Emily’s return would complicate his plans.”
Daniel slowly closed the folder.
His brother had not caused the cruelty that drove Emily away.
That responsibility belonged to Daniel alone.
But Michael had seen the consequences and deliberately hidden the truth.
He had allowed a child to grow up without his father because he believed that was better for the company.
Daniel stood.
“Thank you for telling me.”
Richard looked up.
“What are you going to do?”
Daniel’s face was calm.
“I’m going to make sure the truth comes out.”
Michael Whitmore arrived at Daniel’s Manhattan office two days later.
