“Why didn’t you?”
“Because I was afraid.”
Daniel opened the folder.
Inside were copies of bank transfers, internal emails, and a document bearing the signature of Daniel’s younger brother, Michael.
Daniel stared at it.
Michael had served as vice president of finance during the final year of Daniel’s marriage.
He had also been the person who repeatedly told Daniel that Emily was becoming a distraction.
The emails revealed that Michael had arranged the transfer through an intermediary and then instructed the legal team to keep the transaction out of Daniel’s personal financial reports.
But the final document was the most devastating.
It was a letter from a private investigator, hired by Michael shortly after Emily left the mansion.
The investigator had located Emily in Kentucky.
He had also reported that she was pregnant.
Daniel’s hands went cold.
“Michael knew?”
