“I was frightened. When I couldn’t find Grace, every terrible possibility went through my head. But I shouldn’t have spoken to Noah as though he’d intentionally put her in danger.”
I appreciated his honesty.
“He still needed to understand why keeping that secret was wrong.”
“I know. And I think he does.”
Michael hesitated.
“Grace is staying with the stage crew.”
I smiled.
“Really?”
“We spoke with her care team and worked out a schedule that allows her to participate without overdoing things.”
“She must be thrilled.”
“She is.”
His voice softened.
“She’s also informed me that I know absolutely nothing about sewing.”
I laughed.
“Don’t worry. Neither do I.”
“Apparently, that’s a terrible character flaw.”
We both laughed.
And for the first time, talking to Michael felt easy.
Over the following weeks, Grace continued working on costumes.
She enjoyed every minute.
Noah helped whenever he could, although according to Grace, his sewing skills were hopeless.
