My 14-Year-Old Son Grew His Hair to Make a Wig for His Friend With Cancer—The Next Day, Her Father Called Me

“Grace is still receiving treatment. I have to know where she is. I can’t protect her if I don’t know what she’s doing.”

Principal Whitaker stepped forward.

He explained that Grace already had permission to participate in certain after-school activities.

The drama teacher and school nurse had also confirmed that her costume work was within her current physical limitations.

However, the change in her schedule had never been properly communicated to her father.

“That was our responsibility,” the principal admitted. “The adults should have made sure Mr. Bennett knew exactly where Grace was.”

He turned toward Noah.

“But helping keep this a secret wasn’t the right decision either.”

Noah nodded.

“I know.”

I looked at my son.

“Why would you do that?”

He hesitated.

“Because Grace thought her dad would say no.”

Michael sighed.

“I told her I didn’t want her exhausting herself with rehearsals.”
