That’s why phrases such as these appear repeatedly online:
“Heartbreaking news…”
“Hollywood is in mourning…”
“Fans are devastated…”
“We have lost another legend…”
“Gone too soon…”
“Her family has confirmed…”
Each phrase is designed to create an emotional reaction.
The problem is that emotionally charged wording can cause people to lower their normal skepticism.
When someone believes a beloved actress has died, they may not stop to ask whether the claim comes from a credible source.
They simply react.
