What I did in the next 20 minutes, I had planned for 11 months.
I called Vic first.
He answered on the second ring.
“It’s time,” I said.
His voice was steady.
“Already at the yard,” he said. “Say the word.”
“30 minutes,” I told him.
“We’ll be there.”
I called Ben next.
He was waiting.
“The business accounts,” I said. “Trey’s signatory access. Pull it now.”
“Running it as we speak,” Ben said. “Bank gets the authorization inside 10 minutes.”
I thanked him and ended the call.
I dialed the bank’s commercial services line.
I confirmed my identity.
I removed Trey Finch as an authorized user on the primary operating account.
I suspended the personal guarantee I had been maintaining on a separate line of credit he had opened 14 months ago.
I had co-signed it because he told me it was for new equipment.
It was not for equipment.
