Five minutes after the judge unfurled my marriage, Dad didn’t even ask me if I was okay

Almost a year after the divorce, I got a letter from him.

It was handwritten.

I hadn’t seen his writing in a long time.

“Sloons, I know you probably don’t want to hear anything from me. I lost Chloe, I lost my reputation and I’m involved in life-changing processes. I’m not writing to ask you for money. I am writing to you because I begin to understand how much harm I have done to you. You gave me a life that I mistook for something that was in my heart. I’m sorry.”

I’ve read the letter twice.

Then I put it in the document file.

I didn’t answer him.

Not because I didn’t think people could change.

It was because his change was no longer my responsibility.

In the coming months, legal proceedings continued. There have been negotiations, measures to recover some assets and decisions on certain financial claims. Some of the money could be recovered, but not all. Other issues remained in dispute for a long time.
