While the ambulance was taking Dad to the hospital, he slipped an envelope in my hand and whispered

I turned to him.

I am not afraid that he will take my place, Father. It hurts that I didn’t have the chance to give him one in my life.

My father covered his eyes with his hand.

My mother started crying in silence.

That night, after the doctors told us that my father needed rest, we went home with my mother. We didn’t talk about the envelope in the car. We were both too tired, and the silence between us was not the same as before.

The next day, I called the bank mentioned in my father’s documents. It was explained to me that access to the safe depended on the holder and the existing powers. The single key wasn’t enough. I talked to my father, and after his condition improved, he made the necessary steps to allow me to consult the documents with him or through the procedure authorized by the bank.
