Part 2: My sister’s smile was still on her face – News

“I didn’t cry at my anniversary party. I didn’t scream. I didn’t run. Because I finally stopped mourning a baby I never got to hold. I stopped mourning a marriage I never stopped loving. And I stopped mourning the family that told me the betrayal started somewhere between the fifth and tenth years.”

I looked at the cake one last time.

“The baby on this cake? The one she thought was hers? It was never hers. It was never his. It was never anyone’s except the one who was actually sleeping with both of us.”

My sister made a small, broken sound.

Daniel’s face crumpled like someone had taken a match to it.

I stepped off the stage, walked straight to the front row, and placed the folder in the hands of the private investigator who had finally done his job.

“Send the copies to every single person on this list,” I told him quietly. “The family. The lawyers. The press. Every single person who still thinks my sister’s pregnancy announcement was the worst thing that could happen tonight.”

I turned back to the ballroom.

“And when the truth is out, none of you will ever look at me the same way again.”

I walked out of the ballroom without looking back.

Behind me, I heard my sister whisper my name.

“I’m sorry…”

But the apology came too late.

Because the messages had already been read.

And the real story—the one that started twelve years ago with a funeral and a hotel room—had finally been written in front of three hundred witnesses.

To be continued…
