My Son Was Treated Poorly Because of His Looks Throughout His Freshman Year – After Summer Break, Not Even the Kids Who Used to Tease Him Recognized Him, so He Did What He Had Been Planning for Months

“Mom!”S

“You are staying here tonight.”

“Open the door.”

“Not until I understand what’s happening.”

Then silence.

No shouting.

No pounding.

Just silence.

I sat outside his room until sometime after two in the morning.

Eventually, exhaustion pulled me asleep against the wall.

When I woke, the door was still locked.

I unlocked it.

The room was empty.

The window stood open.

There were fresh scuff marks on the porch roof below it.

Lucas was gone.

My heart exploded into panic.

I called.

Voicemail.

Again.

Voicemail.

I texted.

Where are you?

Then:

Please answer me.

Then simply:

?

Nothing.

I called Renee.

“He’s gone.”

“Diane, breathe. What do you know?”

And that question exposed everything.

I knew almost nothing.

I had spent months collecting details about my son’s life while understanding almost none of them.

Desperate, I opened his laptop.

I found folders filled with screenshots.

Messages insulting his body.

His face.

His weight.

Photos of bruised knuckles.

Lists of dates.

Names.

Tyler appeared repeatedly.

Then I saw one folder labeled:

AVA.

I opened it.

Statements.

Screenshots.

Draft documents.

A proposal.

I couldn’t understand what I was looking at.

Then my phone rang.

“Mrs. Bennett? This is Ms. Alvarez at the high school. You need to come here.”

My blood ran cold.

I drove there expecting police cars.

Instead, a receptionist calmly walked me to a conference room.

Lucas sat at the table.

Beside him was Ms. Alvarez, a counselor, and a quiet teenage girl.

Lucas looked at me.

“Mom, this is Ava.”

I stopped.

Ms. Alvarez gestured toward the chair.

“Mrs. Bennett, please sit.”
