My Parents Chose My Sister’s House Over Mine for Christmas. Then a Neighbor Told Them Something They Never Expected

I did not wait for a response. I was not going to wait for a response tonight. The message was sent and it would arrive and she would do with it whatever she did with it and I would manage whatever that was when it happened.

Tonight there was a house with people in it who had come, who had sat at the long table and stood at the windows and moved through the rooms that had been built to hold them, and one of them was asleep in the window seat having apparently migrated from the living room, and Megan and James

were washing dishes in the kitchen, and the mountains were in the moonlight outside, and this was not an incomplete Christmas.

This was what Christmas in this house looked like.

I stayed in the window seat for a while.

Just sitting in what I had made.

Not designing anything. Not planning anything. Not reaching toward anything at the moment.
