My mother always warned me, “Don’t sit on Grandpa’s lap.” One day I did it anyway

A little after midnight, the first bright trail crosses the sky. I shouted. Grandpa was slowly laughing. In the next hour we stayed all three there, wrapped in blankets. From time to time, a light cut the darkness, and my grandfather told me stories about the constellations. At one point, he leaned his head against the wall and closed his eyes. I was scared. – Grandpa? He opened them right away. Then put out my hand. “You don’t have to sleep next to me if you don’t want to. I just wanted to not watch my last star shower alone. I sat on my mattress and grabbed him by the hand. My mother sat down between us.

In the morning, Grandpa was still there. When I woke up, he was drinking tea and arguing with my mother because she had put too little honey on. I started laughing so hard that they laughed too. He did not die that day, as I feared. He lived for almost three weeks. At that time, my mother didn’t keep me from the truth. I was going to see him, I read and listened to him tell me about his childhood. When he was tired, I was leaving. When he had a good day, I stayed longer. There were no secrets anymore.
