My Husband Watched Me Crawl Away, Then the Hospital Found Proof

“Clara, I still love you.”

I studied his face.

“Then you should have loved me enough to call an ambulance.”

He had no answer.

I turned toward Rachel.

“Let’s go.”

And I walked away.

The following months brought consequences neither Paul nor Diane had expected.

The criminal case proceeded, and the court ultimately found Diane guilty of the assault based on the evidence presented. She received a custodial sentence.

Paul was also held accountable for his role in concealing what happened and for the financial misconduct established during the proceedings. His case resulted in separate legal consequences, including financial restitution and restrictions imposed by the court.

The marriage ended.

The divorce was finalized after the financial matters were addressed.

I recovered my portion of the money that had been improperly transferred, along with additional assets awarded through the legal process.

But the greatest victory wasn’t financial.

It was that I no longer had to explain why I deserved to be treated like a human being.
