I answered.
“Hello?”
There was silence for several seconds.
Then the person on the other end finally spoke.
“You need to listen to me before you do anything.”
My heart started pounding.
“What did you do?”
Another pause.
“I didn’t tell Mark where you lived.”
I looked at the security footage.
Mark was standing beside the police officer.
Vanessa was pacing near the moving truck.
“Then how does he have my address?”
The voice became quieter.
“Because Mark already knew about the house.”
I felt cold despite the warm kitchen around me.
“That isn’t possible.”
“It is.”
“How?”
The answer came slowly.
“He found the purchase records.”
I stared at Rachel.
She shook her head.
“But the code?” I asked.
The person on the phone went silent again.
That silence told me more than words could have.
“You gave him the code,” I said.
“No.”
“Then who did?”
