Luke jumped up. “Mom?”
I took off my glasses.
Your name is on the form.
For a moment, they became two blurred figures on the couch.
Two boys.
Same height.
Same dark hair.
Same outline.
I put my glasses back on. “Luke, there’s something I never told you.”
He had made my choice for me.
He swallowed. “What?”
“You were a twin.”
Ben went completely still.
“After the delivery, your father told me one of you had died.”
Luke stared at me. “But he didn’t.”
There’s something I never told you.
“No. Both of you were born alive.”
Ben’s face was drained of color. “Are you saying I’m your son?”
“Yes.”
Luke turned to me. “Dad knew?”
“The midwife remembers him asking about adoption. And the hospital found a consent form with my name and a signature I never wrote.”
