Brianna’s breathing became uneven.
“Alexander… please.”
Her voice trembled.
“Stop talking.”
But Dr. Brooks continued.
“That is not the primary concern.”
He looked back down at the verified laboratory results.
His expression became even more serious.
“According to the mandatory genomic sequencing required for high-risk fertility transfers, this pregnancy was created through a donor embryo transfer.”
Nobody spoke.
The words hung in the air.
“A pre-screened female embryo was transferred six months ago.”
Dr. Brooks looked directly at Brianna.
“The procedure was fully documented under your name at an Illinois fertility facility.”
He paused.
“Two months before you ever met Mr. Whitmore.”
The VIP ultrasound suite became completely silent.
Not ordinary silence.
The kind of silence where every person in the room suddenly realized that the future they had spent months celebrating might have never existed.
The air conditioning hummed softly above them.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Alexander Whitmore stared at Dr. Nathaniel Brooks as if he had just heard a language he could not understand.
