I lived with him ten years as if I were his wife

Then I said:

  • Yes.

But before the wedding I did something that, ten years ago, I would probably be considered unromancent.

We have talked to professionals about our heritage, property, savings and obligations.

It was all clear.

Everything was discussed.

No one assumed anything.

Because we both learned that love and clarity are not enemies.

We got married in a small ceremony.

Twenty-six people.

Our dog had a ridiculously large bow to his neck.

And when the civil status officer put in front of us the documents for signatures, Mihai looked at me and smiled.

“It looks like this piece of paper really matters.

I smiled too.

It was never just about paper.

He knew that now.

In the morning after our anniversary, Mihai had believed that the two suitcases near the kitchen table were the end of the relationship.

They didn’t represent that.

It was the end of his certainty that I would remain no matter how he treated me.
