I arrived at the harbor with our twin girls, determined to surprise my husband who was returning after months at sea

Ryan and I had a joint account for house expenses and a savings account where I had been raising money for almost five years. The savings were intended for an advance for a larger house, where the little girls would have each room.

Before Ryan’s departure, there were just over forty-two thousand dollars in the account.

I opened the bank’s app.

The balance was $8,430.

For a few seconds, I thought I was looking at the wrong account.

I checked again.

Then I opened the transaction history.

Withdrawals.

Transfers.

Payments to traders I didn’t recognize.

And, in the last two months, several transfers to an external account, with a description that repeats itself.

ā€œV. Morgan.ā€

  • Vanessa.

I put my hand to my mouth.

— Dad…

He leaned towards me.

What happened?

I showed him the screen.

He looked for a few seconds, then he took off his glasses.

Claire, she doesn’t do any more operations until we talk to the bank. We need to find out exactly what Ryan had access and what we can legally protect.
