I arrived at the harbor with our twin girls, determined to surprise my husband who was returning after months at sea

Ryan stepped in immediately.

Claire, there’s no need to go into detail.

“I think it is,” I replied. Especially since you just explained how impossible it is for you to stay true to me.

Vanessa looked at him.

You told me you were separated for almost a year.

I remained still.

  • A year? Ryan left home when I was seven months pregnant. Before he left, he kissed me and promised to recover every day lost when he returned.

Vanessa bit her lip.

For the first time, she didn’t seem so sure of herself anymore.

But what was to follow was much worse than a simple lie about the state of our marriage.

My father looked at me and said softly to me:

Claire, I think we should go. The little girls are tired.

I have approved.

Ryan took a step towards us.

  • Wait a minute! You can’t just go away with the kids!

I turned to him.
