He Threw His Pregnant Daughter Out of Her Own Home—Then One Phone Call – usnews

My name was written across the front.

In Lucas’s handwriting.

My chest tightened.

“Victoria, your husband discovered financial irregularities inside Baldwin-Gallagher Logistics.”

My father had founded the trucking company twenty-eight years earlier. Lucas joined as an investor before we married and transformed it into a regional logistics business.

I had always believed Charles controlled everything.

Apparently, I was wrong.

“Lucas owned fifty-one percent of the voting shares through his holding company,” Samantha explained. “Your father retained the remaining interest, but Lucas controlled the board.”

I stared at her.

“That doesn’t make sense. Dad always said it was his company.”

“Your father said many things that weren’t true.”

She slid the envelope toward me.

“Lucas transferred his controlling shares into a trust that names you as the primary beneficiary. The trustees have authority to intervene if company assets are threatened by fraud.”

I swallowed.

“And the house?”

“The recorded deed identifies you as a joint owner with survivorship rights. Lucas’s death didn’t give your father any claim to it.”
