Psalm 129 and the Quiet Ride to the Convent

A priest once offered a nun a lift to the convent after a long day,s. and a simple remark she made during the ride turned into an unexpected lesson about misunderstanding.

The day had stretched long for both of them in the service of their community. The priest had spent hours listening to confessions, preparing the evening Mass, visiting the sick in their homes, and answering the many small needs that arose among the faithful who came to the church doors. The nun had worked through the morning and

afternoon at the convent school, teaching the younger children their catechism, helping the older ones with their reading, and then turning to the practical tasks of the kitchen and the laundry that kept the community running. When the priest noticed her waiting near the road with her bag, the offer of a ride felt natural. He slowed the car, opened the passenger door, and invited her to climb in so she could reach the convent without walking the remaining distance in the fading light.
