The world says goodbye to the actor behind one of TV’s most iconic characters… See more.

For millions of television viewers, Eric Dane will always be remembered as Dr. Mark Sloan, the charismatic plastic surgeon known as “McSteamy” on Grey’s Anatomy.

But the actor’s career was much bigger than one famous character.

Dane built a long career across television and film, later earning another major role as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria. In 2025, he publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, and used his remaining time to raise awareness about the disease and support research.

Eric Dane died on February 19, 2026, at the age of 53, after his battle with ALS. His representatives said he spent his final days surrounded by close friends, his wife Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
